Juniors go down to Uruguay in first match

The IC under 16 team lost their opening match in the Compass World Wide junior challenge in Tokyo to Uruguay by four matches to one.

Playing against a team that is far more accustomed to the clay courts, our team fought hard but in the end it was only Ntokozo Zungu who managed a win 63 62. Robbie Arendse was beaten 36 36 and Linge Steenkamp lost her match by the same score.  Joubert Klopper was edged out in the third set tie break 7-10 coming back to win the second set 64 to level the match.

The girls lost their doubles 36 46 and the boys will play their doubles tomorrow.

The experienced gained in mindset as well as sliding skills will be lessons well learnt and against a team that has grown up on the clay surface, the team acquitted themselves well particularly as most have little experience on this surface.
