SOUTH AFRICA REPRESENTED AT IC AGM IN LONDON

The International Club again held their Annual General meeting at the LTA complex in Roehampton, London and both Mike and June Dunk attended on behalf of the South African Club.

It was almost a “full house” with 40 of the 42 member countries attending and once again it gave us the opportunity to meet with delegates from other IC around the world. We managed to further cement the relationships that were formed last year when we both attended for the first time.

“Once again this was a wonderful opportunity for us to network with other delegates” said Mike Dunk. “We were able to build on the relationships that we started last year and are pleased to say that we came away with two tours scheduled for the near future.”

The meeting format was the same as last year with the morning session being on Governance and a report back on the Business Survey we completed. Although pleasing to see about a 5% increase in members world-wide, the same problem exists that the bulk of members are over 55 years of age. Again it was stressed that attention should be focused on looking for younger players to become members. The afternoon session was the actual AGM.

We were able to attend three days of the tennis and although both Kevin Anderson and Lloyd Harris had already been eliminated from the singles, we did catch Raven Klaasen and Wayne Ferreira in doubles action. Raven had another good run although he fell just short of equaling his feat last year of making the final.

Only managed to get a brief glimpse of the Coco Grauff the young 15 year old American sensation who took the Championships by storm. Saw her playing mixed but sadly it was impossible to get onto court 1 when she played singles against the eventual champion Simona Halep.

We also attended the lunch given by the IC on the Tuesday which, as usual, was a grand occasion.

“We also took the opportunity to talk to other delegates about our Legends event scheduled for 2020 at Sun City and pleased to say that there was lot of interest in this event” said Mike on his return.
