Social Day In Johannesburg

Sadly the annual social day ended up as a bit of a damp squib as we were warned of bad weather coming up from the Cape area and true to form it arrived on Sunday just as we were looking forward to a mornings tennis with friends and fellow members.

Despite the valiant efforts of us to dry the courts the weather Gods had other ideas and as soon as the courts were dry, down came the rain again. But the morning allowed Demetri Caripi to display his “hidden talent” as a barista and we were able to keep the chill out with fortifying coffee ad lib.

25 of us sat down to an excellent lunch at Bryanston Sports Club who, like the IC lunch we had a while back, did us proud with the food. Chairman, Mike Dunk, was able to tell the members what the club had achieved during the year and said that communication was the “life blood” of any organization. During the year we had been able to send out regular Newsletters as well as organizing breakfast, lunch or dinner meetings with members in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

He also emphasised the success of the development program in Vosloorus wherein he said that “This was the best year by far by way of tournaments played and success achieved at those events.”

Despite the rain we were able to meet with our fellow members and enjoy a morning of camaraderie to say nothing of some excellent coffee!

It was not only our social day that was washed out, but there were 8 of the Vosloorus development players due to play in the last tournament of the year organized by Gauteng East Tennis Association. This too suffered the same fate as the rain came down just before 10;00 and that caused the day to be abandoned.

So not a happy year ending for the kids as well as the adults!
