SUCCESS FOR VOSLOORUS KIDS

SUCCESS FOR VOSLOORUS KIDS

In keeping with their aim of organizing fun tournaments, Gauteng East held the second such day this year on the Public Holiday of 1 May. This was the Gauteng East Wilson Doubles played on a round robin basis with play offs at the end to determine final positions.

Three couples from the Vosloorus development group took part, two girls teams and one boys. It gave the kids that opportunity of playing and socializing with other players and the experience gained will be invaluable for them moving forward.

138 players from under 10 to under 19 took part and most of them taking the opportunity to be in fancy dress to add to the enjoyment of the day. There were a pair of chefs; some boys dressed in tutus and some really innovated outfits.

Our boys couple of Sanele Saul and Thabang Malatsi won the Federer group and then went on to beat the winners of the Nadal group to claim overall first prize. It was a great achievement by the two boys who overcame some strong opposition along the way to claiming the top spot. This type of success will only breed further success for them in the future.

Kgomotso Mabote and Kgomotso Santos came very close to winning but were edged of into second place in Raonic group, but did win the play off to finish third. Again they played above themselves at times to have such a creditable result at the end.

Our second girls couple of Mphile Mabekhu and Dudu Mkwananzi had a tough day and although they played some good tennis in patches the opposition was too strong  for them overall but the experience they gained from their participation will be motivate them moving forward.

The whole aspect of the day, including the way some of them went about dressing up,  is an excellent example of what can be gained from tennis. Congrats to the whole organizing team at Gauteng East on a wonderful, fun filled day.
