MIKE AND JUNE DUNK ATTEND AGM IN LONDON AND WIMBLEDON

The International Club held their Annual General Meeting at the LTA officers in Roehampton, London and we were represented by Chairman Mike Dunk and Secretary June Dunk.

Thirty seven countries sent representatives to the meeting so it was a great opportunity for them to meet the representatives and delegates from not only the IC Council, but also delegates from other countries, particularly as this was the first time they had been to the AGM.

“Looking back I am confident that the contacts that both June and I made will be fruitful in the future” Mike Dunk said on his return.

The morning session was devoted to the IC web page especially as a new company has now taken over the administration and also a session was held to try and organize tours for the forthcoming years. Outside of that particular session, general discussions were held with other delegates and we are in negotiation with three countries for us to tour and play matches against over the next three years.

Croatia has applied for membership of the IC and in the evening a cocktail party was given by the Director of The Kvarner Region Tourist Board at The Queens Club. This was to promote this part of Croatia as a tourist destination.

Mike and June attended Wimbledon on three days and managed to see Kevin Anderson playing Gail Monfils, two matches of Raven Klaasen in the doubles as well as Philip Henning our only junior entry. Also playing was Wayne Ferreira in the Senior Invitation doubles. They also met more than few South Africans who were watching the tennis!

The achievements of both Kevin and Raven were remarkable and gave tennis in this country a huge boost. “I have taken the opportunity to write to both of them on behalf of the IC of SA congratulating them on their success” said Mike Dunk.

They also attended the lunch given by the IC on the Tuesday at Wimbledon where Gabriela Sabatini was presented with the CQS Jean Borotra IC Sportsmanship Award. This presentation was made by Rod Laver. Can you believe that it was 50 years ago that he won the first ever Open Wimbledon and together with Billie Jean King, who won the ladies singles title that year, were guests of honour of the All England Club in recognition of their achievements.
