Annual General Meeting Held

As is traditional the South African IC annual general meeting was held during the National Veterans championships which were held in Pretoria rather than Bloemfontein. Due to Covid this was the first such meeting for two years. This was the 70th AGM of the club. With the tournament being staged this is the time when we have members from all around the country in one place.

The venue was the Blue Crane restaurant and the AGM was followed by  dinner.

The guest was the new CEO of Tennis SA Andre Homan, who comes from a rugby background firstly as a provincial player then administrator. He said his motivation for joining Tennis SA was sparked by his daughters interest in wanting to play the game and his involvement in getting her into a club and subsequently into tournaments. He said his short-term goal is to increase the number of people registered with Tennis SA and to build on the great work done by his predecessor, Richard Glover.

The numbers were down on previous years as the vast majority of those taking part in the tournament lived in Johannesburg and were reluctant to travel back later at night.

The chairman, Mike Dunk, reported that despite the restrictions placed on us due to Covid, IC SA had had a very successful year. Communications to members were done by regular newsletters and on his travels he had hosted a breakfast in Cape Town, dinner in Durban and a lunch in Johannesburg. The development program in Vosloorus achieved their best tournament results and social days were held in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Mike Dunk was re-elected as chairman for the forthcoming year.
