SPECTATORS ALLOWED AT EVENTS

SPECTATORS ALLOWED AT EVENTS

In keeping with our plan to introduce players to tournament play, we entered eight into the one day event organized by Gauteng East Tennis Association in Benoni today. Three were playing at tournament level for the first time and coupled with this we also took along some of the new members of our coaching group so they could see what happens at an event.

This is a day whereby they play a round robin so are assured of playing five matches in a round robin group of six. To our mind all become winners having competed and at no time do we take note of win/loss ratios as for most this is the early stage of their development which in time will hopefully lead to them becoming fully fledged tournament players.

What was so good this time was the advent of spectators being allowed inside the venue following us having been downgraded to Level 1 for the pandemic. It became more like days of old when families could follow the progress of their off spring and being a Public Holiday in South Africa (Heritage Day) there was a positively friendly atmosphere within the grounds.

Again we applaud the efforts of the Gauteng East Tennis Association in hosting days such as this in order that we can spread the net wider for future tournament players who in turn, will hopefully become regulars not only on the tournament circuit, but also part and parcel of the Provincial squad and later represent the Province in matches.
