JUNIORS SETTLE IN FOR ITF TOURNAMENT IN OSAKA

Our three juniors Linge Steenkamp, Joubert Klopper and Robbie Arendse managed to get a valuable day of training in Osaka in preparation for the ITF event starting tomorrow (Monday).

They got to the courts early and were really happy to be back on the hard courts after the clay and indoors for the last day in Tokyo. Practice consisted of some points and set training and they were able to practice with some of the players they came up against in the Junior Challenge. Linge trained with girls from Slovenia, Japan and the USA whilst Joubert and Robbie had two sessions with two Japanese players, one who is based in China.

The organization is first class and the players are getting a taste and sense of being at a Junior Slam with spectators watching them and photographers ever present. There is a stand for each make of racquet for stringing and the physio room is very professional with different experts for massaging, icing and strapping as well as special facilities for stretching and cooling down.

The kids had lunch together with Maria Sharapova’s coach Thomas Hogstedt so am sure they managed to get some valuable tips from him to serve them well this coming week.

The fourth member of the team, Ntokozo Zungu, arrived back in South Africa last night (Sunday) to be met by her delighted parents.
