JOHANNESBURG HOLDS A SOCIAL DAY

As has become tradition Johannesburg held their annual social day on 1 December with 25 members at Bryanston Sports club. We were delighted to be able to welcome some “out of town” members particularly those that came through from Pretoria and the couple who traveled from Vanderbijl Park.

It what were perfect tennis playing conditions we managed to “mix and match” couples throughout the morning. With some very strong players, both the men and ladies, we were able to give those players some very good tennis which at times turned a “social” occasion into more “serious” tennis judging by the standard of play!

With the inclusion of the Pretoria players, who travelled about 70kms to attend, we have decided that next year we will hold a separate social day in their city as well as the annual Johannesburg day.

The club organized a very good light lunch and our chairman, Mike Dunk, was able to give a brief resume of the year’s activities. The highlights of the year were IC SA winning the CQS cup in Prague in June; the continued work at the Vosloorus Development programme where many more children were entered into tournaments for the first time, the IC SA junior team having qualified for the final of the Rod Laver junior challenge  and he also spoke about the upcoming Legends event in Sun City in May next year.

It was a morning of true IC camaraderie with many a story of “do you remember when…” being told amongst the members. What was pleasing was a number of members who attended for the first time and  were able to savour what the true spirit of the IC movement is all about.
